The Lauren McCluskey Foundation is proud to support the Whitman County Humane Society (WCHS) in expanding its capacity to deliver life-saving care to vulnerable animals. This spring, the Foundation contributed $1,500 in matching funds to the shelter’s May Kitten Shower Fundraiser & Supply Drive, helping the campaign more than triple its $3,060 goal. With just days left in the campaign, WCHS has raised over $9,800—its most successful Kitten Shower to date.

These funds are enabling the shelter to purchase and install a veterinary-grade oxygen concentrator, providing urgent respiratory support for neonatal kittens and other animals in distress. Previously, animals requiring oxygen therapy had to be transported off-site—costing precious time and thousands of dollars in emergency veterinary care. With this new equipment, WCHS can now stabilize and treat animals on-site, dramatically improving outcomes while reducing costs.

The Foundation’s support for animal welfare is rooted in Lauren McCluskey’s own deep love for animals. Growing up in Pullman, Lauren volunteered at WCHS socializing cats to help them find homes. Her legacy lives on through Lauren McCluskey’s Cat Wing, a dedicated feline care space completed in her honor, which expanded the shelter’s capacity to care for cats and kittens. The wing was made possible by generous donors and stands as a testament to Lauren’s enduring light, compassion, and commitment to helping others—especially the most vulnerable.

The new oxygen system will be used daily by trained staff, especially during kitten season from April through October. It will also support larger animals with oxygen masks, making it a versatile tool for emergency and supportive care. Additional funds raised through the Kitten Shower will go toward vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, and essential neonatal supplies such as Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR).

Lauren’s legacy continues to make a life-saving difference—one kitten at a time.
