Lauren McCluskey’s legacy continues to inspire and bring positive change, as evidenced by the recent expansion of the Whitman County Humane Society. This expansion features the Lauren McCluskey Cat Wing, a dedicated space that honors Lauren’s love for animals and her commitment to their welfare.
Lauren McCluskey was a student-athlete at the University of Utah who tragically lost her life in 2018. Her passion for animals was well-known, and she often volunteered at local shelters. The Lauren McCluskey Foundation, established in her memory, was founded around supporting initiatives that reflect Lauren’s values and interests.
“She was just an amazing young woman and a very hard worker,” Jill McCluskey, Lauren’s mother said. “A very gifted athlete. She had a track and field scholarship at the University of Utah.
The new Lauren McCluskey Cat Wing at the Humane Society is a testament to her enduring impact. The cat wing of the Humane Society had a limited space of 330 square feet. It made for uncomfortable conditions for the animals, and the expansion added 400 square feet to the space for cats. The new wing provides a safe and comfortable environment for cats, ensuring they receive the care and attention they need. The expansion not only honors Lauren’s legacy but also addresses the growing need for animal welfare services in the community.
The Lauren McCluskey Foundation continues to advocate for campus safety and animal welfare, reflecting Lauren’s diverse passions. The foundation’s efforts have led to significant improvements in both areas, demonstrating the power of community support and dedication.
