Lauren’s Promise Continues to Inspire Campus Safety

Lauren’s Promise is a pledge that reads, “I will listen and believe you, if someone is threatening you.” It represents a personal and professional commitment to listen, believe, and support students who come forward with concerns about their safety. In this video, educators and advocates reflect on how making the Promise has shaped their approach to campus safety and accountability.

Lauren’s Promise was created by Jill McCluskey in the aftermath of the tragic loss of her daughter, Lauren McCluskey, a 21-year-old University of Utah student-athlete who did everything right. Since its creation, thousands of individuals and faculty at more than 400 colleges and universities in 16 countries – including the United States, Canada, Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, India, Pakistan, Thailand, the Philippines, Guam, Australia, and New Zealand – have made the Promise and affirmed their commitment to listen and believe those who are being threatened and to connect them with the support they need.
