Memorial Tribute Honors Lauren McCluskey at the University of Utah
A tree and plaque were installed at the University of Utah to honor Lauren McCluskey, the track athlete who was murdered in 2018 after repeatedly seeking help from campus authorities. The tribute was organized by her parents, Jill and Matt McCluskey, along with supporters who continue to advocate for improved campus safety.
The ceremony highlighted Lauren’s life, her athletic achievements, and the ongoing impact of her story on national conversations about relationship violence and institutional accountability. Speakers emphasized the importance of Lauren’s Promise—the pledge to listen and believe someone who reports being threatened—and encouraged continued efforts to make campuses safer.
The memorial serves as a permanent reminder of Lauren’s legacy and the work still needed to protect students.
