Promise with a purpose - listen, believe, respond

Professor Holly Wang “Runs for Lauren” in Tokyo Marathon

Dr. Holly Wang, a former Washington State University colleague of our founder, Jill McCluskey and now a professor at Michigan State University, is not only a distinguished scholar and AAEA Fellow but also an incredible marathon runner. Recently, she competed in the Tokyo Marathon, where she once again dedicated her race to Lauren McCluskey.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Holly is also a passionate advocate for campus safety. As a faculty member, she has made the Lauren’s Promise pledgeI will listen and believe you, if you are being threatened. The pledge is one of the Lauren McCluskey Foundation’s longest standing and widest reaching programs, with thousands of individuals, and faculty at more than 400 universities across 13 countries having made the pledge to believe and support those who feel threatened. Holly includes the promise on her syllabus and displays it on her office door, ensuring that students know they have a trusted ally.

Holly Wang’s dedication—both professionally and on the marathon course—exemplifies the ongoing impact of Lauren’s legacy. Her commitment to raising awareness and advocating for student safety ensures that Lauren’s story continues to inspire change.

We are grateful for Holly’s efforts to make meaningful change in campus safety.

About Lauren’s Promise

Lauren’s Promise is a pledge open to anyone—students, faculty, staff, parents, or community members—to signal that they provide a safe space. Those who take the pledge commit to listening to and believing individuals threatened by or experiencing relationship violence, while helping connect them to support resources. By making Lauren’s Promise, participants help shift campus cultures that often dismiss or mishandle dating violence and stalking.
