Amanda Gilbert with KUTV recently reported on the significant growth of Lauren’s Promise, highlighting how universities worldwide have adopted the pledge to listen and believe, five years after the tragic murder of Lauren McCluskey.
Sunday marked five years since an ex-boyfriend murdered University of Utah student-athlete Lauren McCluskey after she was not listened to, or believed. Lauren had reached out to campus police and the University’s Housing Office for help more than 22 times in a period of 10 days before she was murdered outside her dorm on the University of Utah’s campus on October 22nd, 2018.
This commitment to student safety aims to improve the response to violence against students and create a secure environment for learning. The Lauren McCluskey Foundation, dedicated to promoting campus safety, has been instrumental in advocating for this initiative.
The foundation’s mission is to improve the response to relationship violence and stalking on college campuses, honoring the legacy of Lauren McCluskey. The addition of Lauren’s Promise to syllabi by numerous professors is a testament to the growing recognition of the need for campus safety. This initiative not only highlights the importance of protecting students but also encourages educational institutions to adopt comprehensive security measures.
The Lauren McCluskey Foundation continues to support various student safety programs, including self-defense classes, educational workshops, encouraging students to seek help when needed.
The growth of Lauren’s Promise is a significant step towards creating a secure environment for all students, and the foundation will continue to advocate for student safety and work towards this goal.
