Utah Governor Signs Campus Safety Bill Inspired by Lauren McCluskey

Utah Governor Gary Herbert signed Senate Bill 134 into law in 2019, creating new campus safety requirements for Utah’s public colleges and universities. Inspired by Lauren McCluskey’s case, the legislation requires institutions to develop comprehensive campus safety plans, improve support for victims of stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, and sexual assault, and strengthen communication between campus departments. The law marked a significant step toward improving student safety and ensuring Lauren’s legacy continues through meaningful policy change.
