Campus Safety

Prioritizing the safety of students

The Lauren McCluskey Foundation is dedicated to transforming how universities and colleges respond to and address relationship violence on campus. Through our focus on campus safety, we aim to honor Lauren McCluskey’s legacy by changing the culture that has historically responded poorly to violence on campuses across the United States. With over 5,000 colleges and universities receiving Title IX Federal funding, our efforts focus on education, collaboration, and accountability to create safer and more supportive environments for students nationwide.

Programs and Objectives

  1. Increase Awareness of Dating Violence and Stalking Through leadership and action, students, faculty, and staff can positively impact the culture and response to dating violence and stalking on their campuses. The Campus Safety Initiative encourages active involvement in these efforts, empowering campus communities to make meaningful changes.
  2. Expand the Adoption of Lauren’s Promise Faculty members should be equipped with the appropriate resources and materials to respond effectively to student reports of dating violence and stalking. The Campus Safety Initiative will enhance and refine the Lauren’s Promise materials and training through a faculty ambassador program. This program will support faculty ambassadors in promoting increased adoption of Lauren’s Promise, ensuring a more responsive and informed faculty.
  3. Create a Best Practices Blueprint for Effective Response Campus leaders, police, and public safety officers are encouraged to adopt best practices for effectively responding to dating violence and stalking. Our initiative will develop a blueprint based on the Clery Act, providing a resource for training and evaluating campus safety organizations. This blueprint will include simple, practical materials for all types of responders to facilitate quick and effective responses both on and off-campus.
  4. Develop and Distribute a Campus Safety Score The Lauren McCluskey Foundation is committed to developing a Campus Safety Score, which will be based on an institution’s procedures, training, resources, and history of responses to campus safety threats. This score will serve as a valuable tool for parents and students in making informed decisions about school selection, while also holding institutions accountable for their campus safety policies and actions.
  5. Share Resources to Improve Dating Violence and Stalking Laws The Campus Safety Initiative will also focus on providing information about state laws and resources, advocating for stronger dating violence and stalking laws at both state and federal levels. We will develop a speaker’s group to present at national conferences, professional organizations, and to the media on issues related to dating violence and stalking, state and campus policies, Lauren’s story, and the successes of our program.

By addressing these critical issues and sharing resources, the Lauren McCluskey Foundation is committed to making a lasting impact and ensuring that every student can feel safe and supported on their campus.
