$13.5M Settlement Supports Lauren McCluskey’s Legacy

The Lauren McCluskey Foundation is pleased to announce a significant development in the ongoing efforts to honor Lauren’s legacy, ensure accountability, and promote campus safety. The Utah Legislature has approved a $13.5 million settlement for the parents of Lauren McCluskey, a University of Utah student-athlete who tragically lost her life in 2018. This settlement acknowledges the preventable nature of Lauren’s death and aims to support initiatives that ensure the safety and well-being of students.

Lauren’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of campus safety. Despite reaching out to campus police and the University’s Housing Office for help more than 20 times, Lauren was murdered by an ex-boyfriend on campus. The murder was a preventable tragedy, and emphasized the need for better safety measures and support systems for students.

The Lauren McCluskey Foundation, established in her memory, has been instrumental in advocating for campus safety and supporting initiatives that reflect Lauren’s values and interests. The foundation’s mission is to honor Lauren’s legacy by improving the response to relationship violence and stalking on college campuses.

The approved settlement will provide the necessary resources to further the foundation’s efforts in promoting campus safety and preventing violence against students. The Lauren McCluskey Foundation continues to support various student safety programs, including self-defense classes, memorial walks, the sharing of resources, and educational workshops, empowering students to protect themselves and seek help when needed.
