NBA Star Donovan Mitchell Honors Lauren McCluskey with Powerful Tribute

Lauren McCluskey name on Donovan Mitchell shoes

During a standout performance on the court, Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell used his platform to honor the life of Lauren McCluskey, the University of Utah track athlete tragically killed on campus. In a game against the Houston Rockets, where Mitchell scored 38 points along with seven assists and five rebounds, he wore shoes bearing Lauren’s name—drawing heartfelt attention from the Utah community.

After the game, Mitchell spoke emotionally about the impact of Lauren’s story, sharing that as someone with a younger sister, the tragedy struck a deeply personal chord. “It’s just tough… women nowadays have it so tough. A lot of times men are the aggressor and women are defenseless. It’s so sad to see things like that happening,” he said.

Mitchell’s tribute resonated across the University of Utah community, with Utes men’s basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak publicly sharing his appreciation, tweeting, “Much Respect Donovan Mitchell” along with a photo of the shoes.

A rising star in the NBA, Donovan Mitchell was drafted in the first round and quickly made a name for himself as a high-impact player. Off the court, he is known for his community engagement and thoughtful leadership. He is represented by Creative Artists Agency.

Mitchell’s gesture served as a powerful reminder of Lauren’s impact and the ongoing need to advocate for safer campuses.
